'After I Do' by Taylor Jenkins Reid

From the BLURB: When Lauren and Ryan’s marriage reaches the breaking point, they come up with an unconventional plan. They decide to take a year off in the hopes of finding a way to fall in love again. One year apart, and only one rule: they cannot contact each other. Aside from that, anything goes. Lauren embarks on a journey of self-discovery, quickly finding that her friends and family have their own ideas about the meaning of marriage. These influences, as well as her own healing process and the challenges of living apart from Ryan, begin to change Lauren’s ideas about monogamy and marriage. She starts to question: When you can have romance without loyalty and commitment without marriage, when love and lust are no longer tied together, what do you value? What are you willing to fight for? This is a love story about what happens when the love fades. It’s about staying in love, seizing love, forsaking love, and committing to love with everything you’ve got. And above all, After I Do ...

The Secret

Review: Anna and the Swallow Man by Gavriel Savit

Let me start this review by saying that I rarely read MG, much less those set in times that are part of our world's history. But Gavriel Savit's Anna and the Swallow Man is one memorable read. Title: Anna and the Swallow Man by Gavriel Savit Release Date: January 26, 2016 Published by: Knopf Source: Publisher Buy: Amazon | Book Depository Summary: Kraków, 1939. A million marching soldiers and a thousand barking dogs. This is no place to grow up. Anna Łania is just seven years old when the Germans take her father, a linguistics professor, during their purge of intellectuals in Poland. She’s alone. And then Anna meets the Swallow Man. He is a mystery, strange and tall, a skilled deceiver with more than a little magic up his sleeve. And when the soldiers in the streets look at him, they see what he wants them to see. The Swallow Man is not Anna’s father—she knows that very well—but she also knows that, like her father, he’s in danger of being taken, and like her father, he has ...

'Three Wishes' by Liane Moriarty

From the BLURB: Three sisters, one birthday, one little problem ... It happens sometimes that you accidentally star in a little public performance, your very own comedy, tragedy or melodrama. The three Kettle sisters have been accidentally starring in public performances all their lives, affecting their audiences in more ways than they'll ever know. This time, however, they give a particularly spectacular show when a raucous, champagne-soaked birthday dinner ends in a violent argument and an emergency dash to the hospital. So who started it this time? Was it Cat: full of angry, hurt passion dating back to the 'Night of the Spaghetti'? Was it Lynn: serenely successful, at least on the outside? Or was it Gemma: quirky, dreamy and unable to keep a secret, except for the most important one of all? Whoever the culprit, their lives will have all changed dramatically before the next inevitable clash of shared genes and shared childhoods. ‘Three Wishes’ was bestselling Australian a...

'Australia to Z' by Armin Greder

Received from the Publisher  From the BLURB: Juxtaposing words and images, the multi-award-winning author of The Island shines an uncompromising light on what it is to be Australian. I don't normally review picture books - not because I don't read them and love them (I do, I  really  do!) but because I think to do them justice I'd have to dedicate an entire blog to the reviewing of them (Hey! There's an idea...) and I personally love the book blogs in which  actual  children review picture books (and I'll admit, their opinions hold more weight than mine!)  But I simply have to rave about Armin Greder's 2016 picture-alphabet book, 'Australia to Z'.  Look, all picture books are art books as far as I'm concerned. But Greder's especially feels sharp and subversive - and a perfect example of how children's picture books especially, can say so much with so little.  In Greder's alphabet book,  A  is for ' A borigine', ' B oat People...

Happy (late) New Year!

I am horribly, horribly late. I know! Obligatory fireworks photo! 2015 has been quite a busy year for me, and I admit that it could've been better. But! All of that's behind now as we're two weeks into the new year, and I am so excited for this year because for me this is the year of changes. But first, I'd like to thank all those who made 2015 a little bit less lonely, bearable and enjoyable. To my blogger friends, you have been the light of my 2015 and I hope to share 2016 with you all and make more amazing memories. To the publicists, publishers and other bookish groups and people who have worked with me despite of my massive reading slump, thank you for being patient and understanding! And to the lovely authors I've met, you made my bookish dreams come true! I wanted to start my year right, so I am unloading some books and giving them away to other people. I am selling some too. Recap: Book Blogging 101 panel + Giveaway!

How long has been it since I last posted in this blog? Hi, dearest readers! *waves* Christmas is just around the corner, I hope you're all ready for the holidays! Photo from Kate of The Bookaholic Blurbs! Fellow book bloggers and friends Precious of Fragments of Life and Sab of Sab The Book Eater had a talk the previous week and it was our turn on November 28th. Together with Kate of The Bookaholic Blurbs , Hazel of Stay Bookish and Jesselle of The Lifelong Bookworm we were invited to be in a panel to discuss book blogging at Fully Booked Town Alabang. We had some time to burn and there was a sale, so imagine us running around the place looking for books we'll most likely end up buying, bringing them to the table for the talk. A photo posted by Kate M (@thebookaholicblurbs) on Nov 29, 2015 at 6:42am PST I was surprised and impressed upon seeing a row of YA books placed on the table, all titles familiar and most I've read, that got me fired up and nervous at the same ti...

Goddess Event: Book Blogging 101 (I'm in a panel!)

I should probably think of what to call this type of announcement, but anyway! I have two major events this month, Filipino ReaderCon and a talk, both related to books and book blogging and I'd like to let you, my readers, know in case any of you are interested. The first time I was in a panel was two years ago, and that was one of the most terrifying and fulfilling moments of my life as a book blogger. Two years later, I have been invited again to talk about book blogging once more! This is exciting since I never thought once that I'll be invited to speak in front of a crowd again. Without further ado, here are the details of the event: Some points to remember: - This is a FREE event. There's no need to pay for or purchase anything to attend. - This is also NOT limited to Southville International School and Colleges students. Anyone can attend the event and I highly encourage you to do so if you are interested to know more about book blogging, book reviews, interactin...
